Premier Pro Series 36 Inch Gas Range With Electronic Ignition And 6 Open Burners, 10 Inch Backguard With Timer, Stainless - P36S148BP Review

Premier Pro Series 36 Inch Gas Range With Electronic Ignition And 6 Open Burners, 10 Inch Backguard With Timer, Stainless - P36S148BPOriginally, I had a 36" Frigidaire range in my house, and the prospects for replacing it weren't pretty. The options are the very low quality standard Premier ranges ($600) or the $3000-$5000 commercial models.
Thankfully, Premier has a 'pro' line of stainless steel ranges to fill the void.I paid $1050 (and picked it up), though you could buy it cheaper here at Amazon, but pay for shipping.
This range is not a commercial range, though it does have 'the look'.When you open the oven door, you'll notice that it doesn't have the heft of it's more expensive brothers. However, that said,if you're looking to replace an older model, and have to fill that 36" hole in your countertop, be sure to check this range out.
I got my range, and installed it in about an hour and a half. The change from natural gas to LP took about 20 minutes. The 6 burners each go from 'simmer' to 12,000 BTU.The included griddle is fantastic - it fits over the two center burners (after removing the grates) and gives excellent even heating.
I recently cooked thankgiving dinner in the oven, and could fit an 18 lb turkey, two 3 quart baking dishes AND a cookie sheet full of dinner rolls inside the oven - try that with your 30" range!
The small cabinet next to the oven is useful for storing the griddle and a couple of cookie sheets.
A few minor nits - the backsplash looks a bit outdated in it's design, and the clock/timer combo is very basic. The lack of a self cleaning oven stings a little, and, of course, the bottom broiler, while it works very well, is back breaking to use.
I love the continuous grate surface of the stove, and the powerful burners - this unit is a great replacement for my old 36" range.
To be honest, I was very leery of purchasing a range whose manufacturer I was not familiar with, but after 3 trips to the store, and countless searches online, I bought it.We are very happy with the range, and have gotten compliments on it as well.

Avanti Elba : DG2401C 24in Freestanding Gas Range with 4 Sealed Burners Review

Avanti Elba : DG2401C 24in Freestanding Gas Range with 4 Sealed BurnersI have to write a short review to say how nice these Elba units are. I have the 2403 Duel Fuel model. Ignore the Avanti name, they are only the importers and I know their reputation in the US is not of high quality. Elba however is an Italian cooking appliance manufacturer independent of Avanti. My unit is of the same quality of a Viking or other high-end stainless range. Everything is solid & perfectly finished. The oven is spot-on accurate top, bottom, front, back. The triple ring burner is fantastic for large pot quick boiling. The oven programming function is deceptively complete although takes some time to learn. Lastly, the Elba units are about 1/2 the price of similar 24" American units.

DCS : RGT305SSN 30in Pro-Style Gas Range, 5 Sealed Dual Flow Burners, Convection Oven - Natural Gas Review

DCS : RGT305SSN 30in Pro-Style Gas Range, 5 Sealed Dual Flow Burners, Convection Oven - Natural GasI just had my new DCS all gas 30" self cleaning range installed a month ago. What can I say - WOW!The installation was flawless and all equipment worked perfectly right out of the shipping carton.DCS proved the most versatile and reliable hands-down.I spent the past six years frequently comparing DCS to Viking, Wolfe, Thermadore, Blue Star, Five Star, Dacor, and many other manufacturers.DCS was simply superior to all the rest.Five burners, each with perfect simmer (quiet too), many oven options, self cleaning, all gas, easy to use, and all cooking options work flawlessly. My neighbor liked the stove so much that his family purchased one shortly after. If you've ever considered purchasing a professional series range then I urge you to look into DCS and then go for it.

Maytag Gemini Series : MGR6875ADS 30in Freestanding Gas Double Oven Range - Stainless Steel Review

Maytag Gemini Series : MGR6875ADS 30in Freestanding Gas Double Oven Range - Stainless SteelWe purchased this oven before the holidays - Love it!The top portion, which serves as a smaller oven, is perfect for cooking just about anything.I've broiled steaks and chops, and baked cookies and cakes, everything has been fantastic! It is absolutely wonderful to have 2 ovens in 1 appliance. How often do you have potatoes going and the rest of your meal needs to be in the oven as well. This solves all the problems! We cooked our turkey and everything else with no conflicts this season!

The smaller oven on top makes it perfect for those of us with really bad backs!I can barely bend over many days, but the top oven is at the perfect height to comfortably take whatever is in - out of the oven.

The burner controls along the side are great - gives the oven a much more streamlined look. The oven lights go on when the either door is opened. The entire appliance is very easy to keep clean.Overall I am thrilled with this purchase, I love the oven and would recommend it to anyone - it's really a plus for a busy kitchen.

Bertazzoni : Professional X304GGVXLPG 30in Pro-Style Gas Range Review

Bertazzoni : Professional X304GGVXLPG 30in Pro-Style Gas RangeWe looked for about a year, comparing ranges, and finally decided on the Bertazzoni. We couldn't be happier.

What we love:

Stove top - It has 4 different burners, which allow you to simmer, heat fast, use small or large pans, and really regulate the heat. The double burner (one burner inside the other) comes in handy to evenly heat larger pans -- I can hardly wait to try to make some paella.

One feature we really like is the "reverse" regulation with the knobs. If you want really low flame, you crank the knob to where it stops. In most ranges it works the other way around - the low flame is in the lowest position - with gas ranges it is really hard to find the precise spot between having a low flame, and having no flame. The way the Bertazzoni is designed, your burner is on and you are sure you have it at the lowest setting.

It is well built, and sturdy. The guy that installed it thought it was a Viking from the weight and way it feels -- but it is about 1/3 of the price of a Viking.

It has a 2 year warranty. We needed some adjustments and the lighting mechanism of two burners was failing a few weeks after it was delivered. I called Bertazzoni - the parts arrived in a few days, and the technician was here the day after the parts arrived. Excellent customer service.

No digital controls!!! When looking for ranges, we found most of them have digital controls. I had heard that some of these ranges (especially in the $1000-$3000 range) have very noisy fans. After talking to a few sales people, I found out that since the digital controls are not supposed to be exposed to the heat, these ranges need an additional cooling/fan element to keep the digital controls from getting too hot. At that point I was on a mission to find a good range with manual knobs.

It has a beautiful design! We didn't buy it for the looks, but it is certainly a bonus.

FEATURES WE LIKE, BUT MAY NOT BE FOR EVERYONE
The oven is relatively small, as ovens go. It is wide, but not very tall. You can fit 2 pyrex with no problem, but you probably wouldn't be able to fit a turkey and a pyrex. Since we seldomly need that big of a volume in an oven, we solved the problem by buying a convection-microwave for under $300 for the rare occassions when we need more oven volume.

On the positive, since it is a smaller oven, it takes less energy to heat up, saving up on gas usage.

When the oven is on, the sound of the fan is noticeable. We don't mind it, but it is something you may want to consider.

SOME LIMITATIONS
The minimum theoretical temperature of the oven is 275 degrees - so if you often cook or bake dishes that require much lower temperature, this may not be the oven for you. We recently made some dishes that required the oven to be 250 degrees. We found we could achieve this by having the oven at the lowest setting, and setting the trays in the top oven shelf.

Since the controls are not digital (see above), it takes a little getting used to the oven knob to get the precise temperature control. We have a $5 oven thermometer, and that works very well.

For the price and the quality, we couldn't be happier.

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KGSK901SSS 30in Slide-In Gas Range, 4 Sealed Burners, Self-Clean Review

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KGSK901SSS 30in Slide-In Gas Range, 4 Sealed Burners, Self-CleanI've had this for less than 5 years and it's now good for the trash.

First, upon receiving it, we had problems with the electronic control and it had to be replaced altogether. Took over a month to get the part and fix it.

Second, when the oven is used, there's a cooling fan that starts up and it's quite noisy. It doesn't stop until the oven is cool, so even after it's shut down, the fan continues to run, ruining any nice and cozy candle dinner you might have planned.

Lastly, we used the auto-clean feature for the first time after about 4 years and it simply killed the display again. We called the repair guy and just to open it and determine what had to be changed would've required to completely disassemble the thing since the door was locked in place by the auto-clean (safety measure). Even then, any part to be changed would've cost (with labour and all) around $1000. So it's now headed for the trash and we'll buy a new one.

DON'T buy any of these Kitchen Aid series.

GE Cafe : C2S980SEMSS 30in Free Standing Dual-Fuel Range w/5 Sealed Burners Review

GE Cafe : C2S980SEMSS 30in Free Standing Dual-Fuel Range w/5 Sealed BurnersAs I prepared to purchase a new range,I did a lot of research on the internet. While there were many glowing reports for the cafe dual fuel, there were just as many highly critical reports. What explained such a discrepancy? Bad quality control?Maybe. Inexperienced users?Perhaps.People expecting one thing and getting another? Possible, I suppose. I didn't know. But I noticed the same thing for all brands and all types of ranges. It would seem that there is no range that is universally recognized as the best.Likewise,I noticed that people get pretty worked up about ranges.

How could I cut through all that and find a range that I really like? The first thing I did was talk to 3 different appliance dealers that sell nearly all brands and all of them saidthat GE does ranges better than it does anything else and furthermore that GE knows ranges better than most. That was helpful. I was really interested in dual fuel. I also liked the looks of the Cafe. But then on the other hand,my sister liked her Bosch dual fuel range that is similar in style.

Eventually I settled on the GE because it seemed more substantial. I did this tentatively;crossing my fingers; hoping that actual problems were rare. I assumed that those who got stuck with a lemon were more motivated to go on the internet and write something then those who had a stove that worked well.

When my new range was delivered, I was very interested in putting it through its paces and seeing if Iagree or disagree with those who wrote against it. Also I wanted to see if I made the right choice. The chief complaints people seem to have against the GE dual fuel Cafe range are as follows:

1. Burners not calibrated well

2. Lower oven does not heat fast enough.

3. Griddle is not hot enough

4. Control knobs get HOT!

5.The mess!Oh the Mess!

6. Water doesn't boil fast enough!

Here's what I have concluded about these complaints after a couple of day fiddling with the The Cafe:

1. Burner calibration:For me and my range, this complaint was not true. I took a sauce pan, about 8" in diamater, filled it with water, put it on the biggest burner, brought it to a boil. When it come to a boil,I was immediately struck by how even the bubbles were in size and spacing. I've used three different stovesover the years and never saw this before. As I lowered the heat, the bubbles merely got smaller...but still evenly spaced. Wow!. Nice, even heat andsuch a delicately broad range even in rate of boil!I did this on all the burners and had the same experience. This cooktop has great control.Cooked bacon on it this morning and easily found the sweet spot for perfect bacon....barely sizzling.

2. Lower oven does not heat fast enough: Yep there is some truth to this complaint. But it depends on what is meant by "fast enough".It does require 20 minutes to warm up. This is not the main oven, and I never expected it to perform like my main oven.If I'd wanted two main ovens,I'd get dual wall ovens. I'm just happy and somewhat amazed that I get to have an extra little oven in my storage drawer!(and yes... you can still use it for storage!)It'll be handy the 20 or sotimes a year when I want to cook two different things at different temperatures. For those times, I'll simply plan ahead and give the lower oven time to warm up.I did a pan of corn muffins (20 minute baking time)in this lower oven as I cooked some ribs(70 minute cooking time)in the bigger oven. AsI put the ribs in the big oven,I turned on the lower oven to warm up.I put the corn muffins in so that they would be done the same time as the ribs. Both ribs and muffins turned out great. They don't recommend things like pizza or roasts in the lower oven....no way to clean the upper surface. So only breads, cookies and non splattering things go in the lower oven.

3.Griddle not hot enough: I think this complaint isjust a case impatience and a related lack of reading. The manual tells exactly how to set it for each food..and how long to warm it up. For pancakes it is setting 4 with a 10 minute warm up.It made perfect pancakes!Better than my stand-alone griddle (which, by the way, takes 7 minutes to warm up and doesn't have the benefit of my exhaust hood). The cafe griddle is heavy... and gives very even heat across the whole surface. The pancakes I've cooked on it turn out identical and even in color. Never cooked such perfect pancakes. In the reviews, I hear people talking about cooking sausage, bacon, and things that splatter. I would never do that on this griddle in my kitchen. Massive amounts of grease spattering everywhere is most uncool.Funny thing though, GEput grease channels in this griddle as if you'd use it to fry greasy/sizzling things, a sales gimmick no doubt. But pancakes, eggs, french toast, rubens; all would do very well on there. It did a marvelous grilled cheese. But only held threeof them (larger sandwich size bread). It's kind of nice having a little griddle ready to go.It's smaller size makes it easy to clean.

4. Control knobs get hot. There is some truth to this complaint. While I was cooking the ribs in the oven, I boiled a big pan of water on the front burner just to see how hot the knobs get as both stove top and oven are used at once...which is the situation that generates this complaint. They do indeed get hot. But I would not say it was a burning temp. I could still hold them constantly....but only on the part that was farthest away from the range (the knobs are long and project outward). Tonight I did convection setting...with pizza in there. Barely any heat in the knobs.

5.Mess!This complaint has some validity too. Range tops do get messy.I suspect that these are first time gas stove users who are making this comments.Gas stoves can be quite a bit harder to keep clean than smooth tops or electrics. But the way this one is constructed, I think the cleaning will be a lot easier than any other gas stove I've had.The burners are sealed and skirted so that the seam between burner and the sheetmetal is not an issue. I'll like not having to try to clean that!

6.Water doesn't boil fast enough:Okay, this is one of consumer report's issues too. They seem to mark all gas rangesdown because they don'tboil water as quickly as an electric. But I contend that there's a lot more to cooking than boiling water fast! A lot of people don't know this, but gas burners take longer to boil water than electric or ceramic.Yep.it's just a fact.you'd expect all that impressive fire to heat faster, but no.Where gas shines is in it's ability to simmer and saute without scorching. Gas is much gentler and more capable of doing foods just right and at a much higher level of flavor. That's why I like it. If all you do is boil water to heat prepackaged meals, I wouldn't recommend a gas stove. But if you like to cook,to saute, simmer, caramelize, reduce, and deglaze you gotta get gas! One other thing that is more critical with gas is the size of the pan.If you put a little pan on a big gas burner,a lot of heat's going to blast up the sides of the pot.

In Conclusion, the GE Cafe Dual fuel is, so far the most impressive range I've ever owned. To my mind the extra money spent was well worth it.If my impression changes I'll amend this later. I did buy an extended warrantee just to be safe. Seems like appliances don't last as long as they used to.

P.S.Here's what rangesI've usedin the past just to give you an idea of what I am comparing to so you can understand where I'm coming from:an Older Hotpoint Electric (from the late 70's/alright ), A GE Gas...(mid-level from '95/Good),and Jenn-air gas (2003..slide in/ very disappointing and found perverse joy in seeing it carted away)

Frigidaire Gallery : FPGS3085KF 30in Gas Range - Stainless Steel Review

Frigidaire Gallery : FPGS3085KF 30in Gas Range - Stainless SteelThis oven totally exceeded my expectations (there were no reviews online when I bought it and I couldn't find the model in stores.) Beautiful, easy to use, easy to clean (top is black by the way, not stainless steel, which you can't tell from the image). However, it looks good. OK it does have that silly "Chicken Nuggets" button on it (please leave me my illusions that I'll be doing something more glamorous than heating up the nuggets, even if that does happen occasionally!). It's a mixture of shiny handles and stainless steel, which matches other appliances well, no finger prints, continuous grate on top, great heating/cooking etc., warming drawer, bottom oven rack that slides out when you open door, etc. No complaints. (Oh, except I had to buy the broiler pan separately. No biggie.)

GE Cafe : CGS980SEMSS 30in Free Standing Gas Range with 5 Sealed Burners Review

GE Cafe : CGS980SEMSS 30in Free Standing Gas Range with 5 Sealed BurnersAn afternoon of visiting a few stores and a price match with 10% off, brought the price down to about $1800.Still not cheap... but we found out quickly that today, $1000 doesn't even buy you a nice gas stove with extra features... just a gas stove cheaply made. We've owned this for about 2-months and it's fun to cook again! I can actually cook with 5 large pots and pans at the same time! They moved the burners out 3-inches, so it's still 30" but you have more cooking area.I can boil water in 5 minutes, program it to shut off after the food has cooked for a set period of time, and the center burner cooks pancakes and bacon just perfectly at 6000 BTU's (all other stoves with oval center burners were 5000 BTU's). Sorry, haven't tried the convection yet.... but it converts automatically.Have read other people's concerns over the fan noise, honestly we haven't noticed, but most of our cooking is done well under 425 degrees. The stove will give you a nice commercial look, one burner gives you professional level 18,000 BTU's, and for the price it's a great choice. If you're a professional chef/cook, I can't imagine you would be happy, it would be all look and not enough power. But for us, large family, cooking 2-meals at home per day, sometimes different items for the finicky kid, it had all the extra features we wanted at a great price without getting into a commercial stove with a big price tag.
